Here's the problem. Elections are one of the most complex systems we rely on. Decentralized, human driven, and under constant scrutiny. But behind every election are thousands of decisions with very little margin for error.

We had some concerns about the health of our democracy. I wanted to help or contribute or patriotism, I guess, some ways.

That motivation led to the question, what does election security look like at the human and local level?

Poll workers are our first line of defense in elections. We need not only the right count, but we also need the American people to believe in the outcome of it for our democracy to work.

On this episode of Problem Solved, we hear from doctor Natalie Scala to explore how industrial and systems engineering is helping strengthen elections without becoming political.
